Are you meant to do miracles?

Most certainly, you are expected to do miracles. As a follower of Jesus, the lifestyle of Jesus is what you aspire for.

Jesus gave sight to the blind, healed the leper, the deaf began to hear and very many more. Needless to say about the miracles of the multiplication of provisions like the 5 loaves of bread and 2 fishes feeding five thousand men and others. The tax being paid from the gold coins from the fish. The storms are calming. The dead brought back to life.

Yes, the range of miracles that Jesus performed is mind blogging. And we are meant to do these miracles. Living a life where miracles follow us should become the norm.

When do miracles happen?
When Heaven invades earth, miracles happen. In Heaven, there is no sickness, no lack, no storm. The reality of heaven gets experienced on earth whenever Heaven comes to earth. Many of you would be seeing various near misses – instances where accidents would be the naturally expected outcome, but no accident happens and everyone is safe.

These incidents cause people to draw near to God & thank Him, praise Him, glorify Him and worship Him. The lady with the issue of blood had sought help from physicians for 12 years and all her money was spent in the pursuit of seeking healing. She was desperate. The pursuit for all these years and the failure in getting results had made her extremely desperate.

The desperation of lady with the issue of blood
She had heard very many instances about Jesus healing many sick people & raising people from the dead. She heard that Jesus would be passing that way. At this point, she had a thought, perhaps as a flash, she knew that she would be healed, healed by touching the garment of Jesus. This prospect excited her. The expectation within her increased as she thought more about it.

She knew that she would be really healed once and for all. All that she heard about the many getting healed by Jesus had already built up her faith. She would have probably enquired with many around her and received many details about the various instances of the healing and miracles. In getting these details and thinking about these her determination increased, her expectations multiplied.

She knew this was the opportune time. This is it. If I miss this, I will lose an opportunity of a lifetime. If I use it, this will be a turning point, an opportunity of great healing & freedom – once again normalcy of life. Then when Jesus walked in the midst of a crowd nearby, the lady with the issue of blood for over 12 years became a woman with a mission. She sneaked into the crowd & somehow managed to touch the hem of the garment of Jesus. The woman was instantaneously healed. Jesus sensed someone touched him & he felt power leaving him & enquired who touched him. (Luke 8:43-48). Expectation, hope, faith grew into a mighty mountain in the mind of the lady as she continuously pondered on this. At that instant healing power flowed from Jesus to her.

In the crowd, many others were around Jesus. In the crowd, many were bumping against each other, elbowing, jostling people around including Jesus. But there is no mention of anyone else drawing power from Jesus and getting better. Only the lady with the issue of blood who somehow managed to touch the hem of his garment got healed. She did not even ask Jesus for a miracle in the way we know it. She had only built up her hope and her faith and in the expectancy, she got healed.

Healing of the son of the royal official
When Jesus had come back to Cana of Galilee, a nobleman came to meet him. This nobleman’s son was sick in Capernaum. He was extremely desperate. His son was extremely serious & dying. He knew only a miracle could bring healing. He enquired and got to know that Jesus had reached Galilee. He sought Jesus to go along with him to his home, as his son was dying. But Jesus told him to go back home, saying that his son was healed. Later this nobleman discovered that it was the very instant Jesus pronounced healing, that his son was healed. We don’t see Jesus get into a long prayer at all.

Prophesy to Nathanael: “You will see heaven open and angels descending and ascending!”
Nathanael knew the Jewish Holy books. He knew that a saviour would come. So when his friend Philip had called him to meet Jesus, Nathanael asked, “What good came from Galilee?”
Philip found Nathanael and told him, “We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” “Come and see,” said Philip.

Jesus saw Nathanael coming and told that here comes a guileless man. Nathanael was zapped. He wondered how Jesus knew about him. Jesus told him that he had seen him under the fig tree, even before Philip had called him. Nathanael did not have words. He said that Jesus was Lord and the Messiah.

At this point, Jesus gave him a word and told him. “You will see heaven open and angels descending and ascending!”

Nathanael was a devoted man, reading, learning and knowing the scriptures. This could most likely be the reason he was chosen to be a disciple. This would be the reason that he got such a beautiful prophecy from Jesus. This is also another miracle.

What about you? What should your expectations be?
In the New Testament, we read many instances which mention that Jesus Christ is in us. That we are the temple of the Lord. That Christ in us is the hope of glory. We have thus a choice to have an ongoing awareness of Jesus Christ within us. We have a choice to think like Jesus, to behave like Jesus – to guard our eyes against evil, to keep our hearts pure & holy, separated from the Lord. Even as we exercise our choices, we can build up our hope, expectation and faith to bring heaven on earth in our surroundings.

We can choose to be silent when people revile us. We can choose to go after the lost one. We can choose not to judge the adulterous women whom all wanted to stone to death. We can choose to pay taxes. We can choose to pay the bill of a stranger in a restaurant. We can choose to bless an orphan child with gifts beyond the imagination of a child. You can speak an encouraging word to the person not recognised in the office. You can spend time speaking to a senior citizen. Think more often what Jesus would do. When you start doing what is possible for you in the physical world, you get ready to see the supernatural manifest, the miraculous manifest.

You would start to hear the Lord, as you become sensitive to what the Lord speaks to you. As you start obeying what the Lord Jesus speaks to you, you advance further and the miracles start manifesting.

In the physical world, everyone knows that exercises are required to build up muscles. People know that education in school, college and medical college is required to treat patients. Likewise, progressive walk with the Lord, a strong relationship is required for you to be a channel of miracles for the Lord Jesus Christ.
