Just because divorses take place among Christian families, the truth does not change. The numbers do not make divorse acceptable in the eyes of God.

I was shocked by the clear commandments, the certainity with which Jesus spoke. I had wronged in expressing a contrary view about divorce when it came to the divorce of a friend and a family member. I confess the error of my judgement. Thankfully the shortcoming of the past does not make me a slave of the past error of judgement. Rather, I am determined and bolder to walk in the paths of the truth.

What is God’s view on marriage?

God Almighty created man and woman. And in the Holy covenant of marriage as they leave their parents, they come together and become one flesh. Thus what God united in marriage to become one flesh remain united. This is a clear statement that pointing to the unity of marriage to be sustained.
And He answered and said to them, “Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.” ( Mathew 19:4-6 NKJV)

What are the bible verses for a strong marriage?

The foremost matter to know is that marriage is a covent relationship established by God. Thus the greatest importance is given to this. Hence anyone entering into this relationship needs to do so with greatest understanding – giving no place to enter this with casualness. The scripture verses given in the section above clearly point to the divine nature of marriage. These verses remind us the need to take this God ordained relationship with great seriousness.

Love and forgiveness are important ingredients of a fruitful marriage.

The nature of marriage is to rise up to the level as Jesus Christ loves the church.
Ephesians 5:25 says Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her.

1 John 4:7
Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loves is born of God, and knows God.

Ephesians 4:2–3
With all lowliness and meekness, with long-suffering, forbearing one another in love; Endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

Ephesians 5:33
Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.

1 Corinthians 13: 4-10
4 Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 5 does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; 6 does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

8 Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part. 10 But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away.

What does the law of Moses say about divorce?

The law of Moses permits a writing of divorcement to put away a wife.

What does Jesus Christ say about divorce?

Jesus Christ says that Moses says so only due to the hardness of heart. Divorce was not intended by God. Thus Jesus clearly was against divorce. The only possible exception for going ahead for divorce is when a person is involved in sexual sins of adultry or fornication.

Jesus said that whoever divorces his wife and marries someone else commits adultery—unless his wife has been unfaithful.

What to do if you know anyone whose marriage is troubled?

To start with, we decide not to judge the couple who has a troubled marriage.
We do not look down on any marriage – their unique challenges only they know.

But we earnestly pray to the Lord that strive to leave their marriage and peace to be restored. This is the first and foremost matter.

We start engaging with the couple. Ask the Holy Spirit to lead us in wisdom. Remember that the Holy Spirit is the comfortor and councellor.

Often regular engagement with couples with a good marriage, would be a great help. The couples offering help and guidance should be well grounded in the scriptures. They should know the verses relating to marriage and divorce in truth and spirit.

Only later seeking spiritual or christian professional marriage councellors is the next step as is required.

When you are sensitive to how couples behave and engage, at an early stage intervention can be done – which can restore marriages to be strength – the way the Lord wants them to operate as one body.
