Wisdom from the perspective of the Bible

Wisdom from the perspective of the Bible

Many of us desire wisdom, to be a wise person who makes wise decisions. Quite often there are two distinct types of wisdom. Wisdom of the world and wisdom of God. The wisdom of the world is short-sighted. But the wisdom of the world appears logical and everything is structured and seems right. Wisdom of the world appears tangible as it is logical and thus appealing to the mind.

The wisdom of God, also known as the wisdom from the throne room of God, also known as the  wisdom of heaven is the eternal wisdom – the wisdom which is strong and fruitful in every season. We will require to trust in God for wisdom for God. But once we cross the situation or once we cross the river, the solution is path breaking and is so beautiful. Faith is required to experience the wisdom of God.

The wisdom of God is based on the will of God, thus it originates from God. The Will of God is based on the commandments and law of God. The book of proverbs states that wisdom starts from fear of God. As we love God, we desire to please him, we do not want to displease him.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge,
But fools despise wisdom and instruction. (Proverbs 1:7)

The book of Proverbs has nuggets of wisdom for everyday life. As 31 chapters are there, many read this every day of a month. Unless we read and strongly desire God’s wisdom, we can not have it. The wisdom of the world is easier to accept, but it is inferior.

We should remember the wisdom of God is different from the Wisdom of the World.
To the people who understand it, it is superior to the wisdom of the world.
To those who do not understand the wisdom of God, it is foolishness. The world has many people like that.
Are we as the people of God able to pursue the wisdom of God knowing that it is true?

Jesus came walking on water, he invites others to join him. Godly wisdom says, what Jesus has done is possible for us as we are sons and daughters of God, we can do it as well. As we accept the crucification of Jesus for our sins and the resurrection life of Jesus, we are co-inheritors with Jesus Christ, we are seated in heavenly places, and we have the mind of Christ.

The wisdom of the world will say, stay in the boat, else you will sink. The wisdom of the world will say, the Jesus you see walking on the water must be a ghost.

So we need to be renewed in our minds to have the mindset of God, to operate with the wisdom of God.

The wisdom of God is the Word of God. All creation was made by the wisdom of God.

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. (John 1:1 to 4)

Jesus Christ is the wisdom of God. Jesus Christ is the embodiment of Wisdom of God.

Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? 21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe. 22 For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom; 23 but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a [i]stumbling block and to the [j]Greeks foolishness, 24 but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. (1 Corinthians 1: 20-25)

In Jesus Christ are hidden all the treasures of wisdom.

2 I want them to be encouraged and knit together by strong ties of love. I want them to have complete confidence that they understand God’s mysterious plan, which is Christ himself. 3 In him lie hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. (Colossians 2:2-3)

Pursue Jesus Christ our Lord and saviour. Grow in wisdom. The first step is being intimate with the Word of God. The Holy Spirit will give you all the necessary guidance – with all certainty.
