Be successful with Bible-based work ethics

Follow the work ethics mentioned in the Bible. This is bound to give you peace and enhance your productivity, yield good results, benefit your employer, and take you in the path of prosperity. They are different from the work ethics of the world. People of the world, all those without the renewed mind, will not understand this. But this will deliver results. Here are a few of the work ethics for your practicing. As you go this way, you will get to have a greater understanding of these work ethics.

1) Working with your whole heart

Working with full heart is what’s required; this is far superior to full mind. When you work with a full heart, you sincerely desire to do the very best for the work you do. You want it to prosper; you are not interested in appearing to be sincere. Even in your very thoughts, you want it to do well, so that your Boss or the company that employs you will do well. You are not limited by the rule book; you work as if it’s your own company. You consider it a great privilege to serve the Lord Jesus through the work you have.

Bible verse backing this: Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance. (Colossians 3:23-24 NIV)

2) Make the Kingdom the first priority

Having the first things as the first ensures everything else falls into place. Thus, making God and seeking to find His will first should be a priority. Then you will find the rest of the matters falling into place.

Bible verse backing this: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. (Matthew 6:33 NKJV)

3) Being focused at work and to complete it

At work, we are to have only one prime focus, one drive, and one determination. This is the way Jesus viewed his assignment here on earth. The same way we need to view our work viz. (1) to do what we are expected to do & (2) to complete the work expectation every day.

Bible verse backing this: My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work. (John 4:34 NKJV)

4) Contribute towards profitability

We are to be fruitful in our work, yielding 30, 60 and 100 fold increases.

This is important. When we are diligent, we can see productivity and profitability increase. God will provide ideas and strategies for this. If we lack wisdom, ask the Holy Spirit to give us the wisdom for fruitfulness.

Bible verse backing this: But others fell on good ground and yielded a crop: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. (Matthew 13:8)

5) Treating colleagues/subordinates fairly:

When at work, we do not slack. We supervise and treat colleagues/subordinates well, managing them and ensuring they arise to completing and delivering to the level or more than the expectations. Even as a supervisor or boss, ,you treat others well. You consider all as worthwhile team members and value them.

Bible verse backing this: Masters, give your bondservants what is just and fair, knowing that you also have a Master in heaven. (Colossians 4:1)

6) Paying mandatory tax & other payments

We pay taxes and other mandatory payments where it’s due. Never withholding paying what’s due to the authorities. Jesus Christ modeled this to us.

Bible verse backing this: Then the Pharisees went and plotted how they might entangle Him in His talk. And they sent to Him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that You are true, and teach the way of God in truth; nor do You care about anyone, for You do not regard the person of men. Tell us, therefore, what do You think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?”
But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, “Why do you test Me, you hypocrites? Show Me the tax money.” So they brought Him a denarius.
And He said to them, “Whose image and inscription is this?”
They said to Him, “Caesar’s.”
And He said to them, “Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” When they had heard these words, they marveled, and left Him and went their way. (Matthew 22:15-22 NKJV)

7) Servant leadership

Even as a leader or supervisor or Boss, Jesus Christ teaches us to serve others, to be a servant leader—unlike the norm of the world, which is always expecting to to get served.

Bible verse backing this: But Jesus called them to Himself and said to them, “You know that those who are considered rulers over the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. Yet it shall not be so among you, but whoever desires to become great among you shall be your servant. And whoever of you desires to be first shall be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” ( Mark 10:42-45)

8) Operating in Divine wisdom

Jacob was working at his uncle Laban’s farm. The Lord’s favor was upon him. Jacob operated with divine wisdom. Laban’s assets increased. Even when Laban did not keep his word, the Lord God blessed Jacob with divine wisdom. The Lord gave Jacob wisdom through dreams so that his sheep would breed and increase much faster.

Bible verse backing this: And it happened, at the time when the flocks conceived, that I lifted my eyes and saw in a dream, and behold, the rams that leaped upon the flocks were streaked, speckled, and gray-spotted. Then the Angel of God spoke to me in a dream, saying, ‘Jacob.’ And I said, ‘Here I am.’ And He said, ‘Lift your eyes now and see, all the rams which leap on the flocks are streaked, speckled, and gray-spotted; for I have seen all that Laban is doing to you.( Genesis 31:10-12)

9) Operating with Presence and from rest

Any project, meeting, situation, or circumstance, its important to have the Presence of the Lord with us. This manifestation of the presence of God is peace.

The world operates with the understanding that more time at work brings greater productivity. But the Bible points to the importance of rest to increase yield in the field and to increase fruitfulness at work. Modern science has started to understand the importance of rest for superior efficiency.
When Moses asked for the Presence of God

Bible verse backing this: And He said, “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest. (Exodus 33:14)

In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat—for he grants sleep to those he loves. (Psalms 127:2)

Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe. (Romans 15:13) (with the presence of God, we experience peace)

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.(Philippians 4:13)

10) Trusting in God

Trusting in God is important. It’s not about being lazy. It’s about having done all one should; one’s trust and hope should always be in God.

Bible verse backing this: Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. (Proverbs 3:5-6)

11) Being in peace & avoiding anxiety

Trusting in God requires surrendering dire situations and circumstances to God and seeking His wisdom, guidance, and grace. Praying in tongues brings breakthroughs. Seeking wisdom & solutions from the Holy Spirit is important.

Bible verse backing this: You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast because they trust in you. (Isaiah 26:3)

12) Reading and meditating the Word of God

The Word of God is Holy Spirit inspired and has power in it. The Word can lead us towards solutions & breakthroughs. There are times when the Word of guide literally guides us towards a solution.

Bible verse  backing this: Blessed is the man
Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,
Nor stands in the path of sinners,
Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;

But his delight is in the law of the Lord.
And in His law, he meditates day and night.

He shall be like a tree
Planted by the rivers of water,
That brings forth its fruit in its season,
Whose leaf also shall not wither;
And whatever he does shall prosper.(Psalm 1:1-3)

As mentioned earlier, this is not an exhaustive list. But certainly, a place you can start with.
