Precious Nuggets from Paul’s Epistle to the Romans

Chapter 12 to 16

I have come across precious nuggets from the Book of Romans. While some were on the surface, some others had to be dug. Many more are certainly there. As I discover, I shall share & update them.

Some life questions answered in this blog post include these.
What should you clothe with?
How to know God’s perfect will?
How to please God?
Why should you not take revenge?
How can you be transformed?
How to engage with those who persecute you?
How should you think about yourself?
What is the fulfilment of the law?
What kind of debt can you have?

What is the Kingdom of God like? How to please God? Should we mutually edify?

Romans 14:16 to 19

Bible version NIV: “Do not let what you know is good be spoken of as evil. For the Kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit, because anyone who serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and receives human approval. Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification.”

Why should you not take revenge?

Romans 12:19 to 21

“Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,”says the Lord. On the contrary: “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”

What kind of Debt can you have? What is the fulfillment of the law? Debt, Owe

Romans 13:7 to 11

NIV: “Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor. Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law. The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,” and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.”

What should you clothe with? What should you put on?

Romans 13:14

“Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.”

Romans 13:12

“The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armour of light.

How can you be transformed? How will you be able to know his perfect will?

Romans 12:2

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

Romans 13:12

“The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.”

Do we need to have any zeal? Do elaborate.

Romans 12:11 to 13

“Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.”

How to engage with those who persecute you?

Romans 12:14 to 16

“Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.”

How should you think about yourself?

Romans 12:3

“Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you.”

How can Unity be achieved?

Romans 15:5 to 7

NIV: “May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.”

Bible version KJV : “Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be like-minded one toward another according to Christ Jesus:That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Wherefore receive ye one another, as Christ also received us to the glory of God.

What kind of wisdom should you have? What happens when you have it?

Romans 16: 19 to 20

“I want you to be wise about what is good, and innocent about what is evil. The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet.”

Joy & Refreshing

Romans 15: 32, 33

NIV: “Pray that I may come to you with joy, by God’s will, and in your company be refreshed. The God of peace be with you all. Amen.

Hope, Joy & Peace

Romans 15:13

NIV: “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

Live, Die

Romans 14:8

NIV: “If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.”
