Prayer before reading the Bible

Prayer before reading the Bible

We read the Bible to hear from God. Yet because our minds are not still and at rest, we can miss hearing all that God wants us to hear and know. As we get to hear from Almighty God as we read the Holy Bible, we should prepare ourselves. Prayer can silence all noises we hear. Prayer can turn our attention to God. Prayer prepares our heart to hear from God. So pray and seek God’s Wisdom, Grace and Guidance. Pray, pause and then read the Bible. This prayer is uniquely powerful as it is based on the scripture.

Prayer before reading the Holy Bible

Dear Lord,
Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
As I prepare to read the Living Word,
I desire to hear all You want to tell me.
( based on Psalm 119:105)

I am hungry and thirsty,
For your daily bread, the living Word.
The provision of your Word makes a way for me even when there seems to be no way.
Your Word gives me Hope, even in hopeless situations. (based on Matthew 6:11, Exodus 14:13-14, 21-22, Romans 8:24 )

Lord, may I always delight in Your Word.
I desire to meditate on your Word day and night,
So that I would be like a tree planted by the rivers of water,
That brings fruit in its season,
Whose leaf shall not wither;
And what ever I do shall prosper. (based on Psalm 1:2-3)

I desire my eyes to see, ears to hear and
my mind to be sensitive to your nudges. (based on Proverbs 20:12)

Lord make me like a good ground
That brings good yield from your Word
Sowed into my life. (based on Mathew 13:8)

I ask for wisdom and understanding from You,
and thank You that You give it generously to me. (based on James 1:5)

Thank you Lord for lighting my lamp;
You enlighten my darkness. (based on Psalm 18:28)

May your Word, may your Name, may your Promises
Be exalted above all my situations and circumstances. (based on Psalm 138:2)

Lord, I desire and ask that my faith grows
as I hear from you as I read the Bible. (based on Romans 10:17)

Lord, I desire to hide your Word in my heart so that I do not sin. (based on Psalm 119:11)

Lord, I ask for Your Kingdom to come,
Your will to be established in my life. (based on Matthew 6:10)

Thank you Lord Jesus for giving me exceedingly and abundantly more than I ask or desire.
(based on Ephesians 3:20)

I am excited in anticipation, as I get to read the Bible now.
I believe that my prayers are being answered. (based on Mark 11:24)

I ask and receive all these in the matchless name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
