Daily Bible Reading and Meditation

Today’s verse is from the Proverbs – Proverbs 12:11

Find below the verse from two versions of the Bible.

But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself. (version KJV)
But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way. (version NIV)
But Daniel made up his mind that he would not defile (taint, dishonor) himself with the king’s finest food or with the wine which the king drank; so he asked the commander of the officials that he might [be excused so that he would] not defile himself.(version AMP)

Under typical circumstances who would not like the King’s diet, the special and rich spread of the King of the land. But Daniel was a boy who followed instructions. Neith did meat nor wine tempt him.

Daniel was not in his parents house, nor in his relatives house. He was in a distant land with the king. His obedience was from his heart. He was not going to do things in hiding. He feared the invisible God.

It was not easy to abstain from the King’s food given to him, but a decision was made in his heart. The first step of obedience by Daniel was followed by the next step of favour from man, a provision from God. He had not known how the eunuch would respond to his request. But the first step led to the next possibility.

Our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. We need to maintain our body and mind pure and holy, separated unto God. Meditate on this verse. If he shows you changes that you need to make, go ahead and obey the nudges of the Lord. Take the first step. When you start having a habit of daily reading and meditating on the Bible verses, you will start hearing from God.

When you hear Him, you can start pleasing Him as He instructs you. Remember what He speaks to you will not be contradicting the explicit word in the Bible.
