Preparation is key to success in any meeting. Be it internal meetings or with those outside your organization.
Are not meetings sometimes like battle grounds where individuals or teams or entities discuss, argue, and fight with words, arguments, or egos?
These scripture-based prayers are powerful as they are based on the Living Word of God. To get the context, a statement by the ruler of a country is so powerful that it can change policies in a country and even affect stock market prices. Bible verses are the Words of the Living God, the creator of the universe. Hebrews 4:12 states For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12 NKJV)

1. Why is preparation important?
2. Why is spiritual preparation most important?
3. Scriptural Prayer for successful meetings
Preparation is very much scriptural.
Jeremiah 1:17 says But you [Jeremiah], gird up your loins! Arise and tell them all that I command you. Do not be dismayed and break down at the sight of their faces, lest I confound you before them and permit you to be overcome.
Here, we see God asking Jeremiah to prepare mentally, physically, and emotionally for a difficult challenge and an upcoming confrontation. Jeremiah was asked to prepare for a meeting with Josiah, king of Judah.
Jeremiah was asked to prepare for mental strength, physical strength, and emotional strength. So having good sleep, a healthy diet, physical exercises, etc., is required for a good meeting. Sitting late into the night, watching Netflix, movies, online videos, or taking part in 24/7 live streaming platforms are to be avoided, etc.
Get good sleep because God gives his children rest and sleep. Psalm 127:2 says It is vain for you to rise up early, to take rest late, to eat the bread of [anxious] toil—for He gives [blessings] to His beloved in sleep. (Psalm 127:2 AMPC) the NKJV version says. It is vain for you to rise up early, To sit up late, To eat the bread of sorrows; For so He gives His beloved sleep.
Needless to say, when a meeting agenda is known, preparing for the specific topic and around that is essential. People always take the liberty to discuss topics beyond the agenda and expect answers.
Do you know that the Syrian King’s battle plans were known to the King of Israel? The Syrian King was frustrated as his secret battle plans were being leaked to the King of Israel. The King suspected an informer in his army was doing that. Later, he was told that Elisha, a prophet and man of God, was using divine revelation to inform the King of Israel, thus defeating all his battle strategies. How would you like to know all that the other meeting participants plan to speak, argue, and ask in advance? And imagine if you prepare with spiritual insight all these points. Can see the smile on your face and the joy in your heart.
Therefore, the heart of the king of Syria was greatly troubled by this thing; and he called his servants and said to them, “Will you not show me which of us is for the king of Israel?” And one of his servants said, “None, my lord, O king; but Elisha, the prophet who is in Israel, tells the king of Israel the words that you speak in your bedroom.” (2 Kings 6:11-12)
God answers us and shows us great and mighty things we do not know. “Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.” (Jeremiah 33:3 NKJV)
An aspect of spiritual preparation is clearly stated in the epistle of Peter, as stated in 1 Peter 1:13
So brace up your minds; be sober (circumspect, morally alert); set your hope wholly and unchangeably on the grace (divine favor) that is coming to you when Jesus Christ (the Messiah) is revealed. (1 Peter 1:13 AMPC)
Remember, an encounter with Jesus is a daily process. The Samaritan lady at the well encountered Jesus, and she acted upon it – told people in her city, and many accepted Jesus Christ and believed in Him as a Savior. The encounter with Jesus made her the first evangelist.
Zachaeus had desired to have a glance at Jesus, who was passing by his city. Jesus called him down from the sycamore tree and walked with him to his house and dined with him. He acted on his encounter with Jesus, changed his thoughts, acted on the new thoughts, and returned all wrongly received money. His life was never the same.
Blessed be the Lord my Rock,
Who trains my hands for war,
And my fingers for battle. (Psalm 144:1 NKJV)
God trains our body and mind for the meetings – the present-day wars we often participate in.
We need wisdom and strategy for meetings, so we need to ask for wisdom from God. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. (James 1:5)
The spiritual preparation can happen with the daily Bible reading you have. Ask the Holy Spirit for an Encounter with Jesus as you read the scripture. On occasions, I have to change my thoughts toward family/ friends/ colleagues to be reframed from a place of love. In the process, I have been chiseled and shaped. And I experienced grace abounding in the run-up and during the meeting. I do not understand the heavenly process of connection between how thoughts and interactions with family/ friends impact the meetings I have. But in spite of not figuring this out, meetings become successful.
Pleasing God is an important basis for having a peaceful meeting. The scripture says. When a man’s ways please the Lord, he makes even his enemies to be at peace with him. (Proverbs 16:7) Often, a peaceful meeting is a good outcome to be desired from a meeting.
Lord God,
Thank you for calling me the apple of your eye.
Thank you for writing my name in the palm of your hand.
Grateful for Your loving kindness towards me.
I need wisdom from You for a successful meeting.
As promised in James 1:5,
I ask for Wisdom and
I thank you for giving me wisdom liberally,
without reproach.
I ask in faith and receive it with all certainty.
The Lord put forth His hand and touched my mouth,
and the Lord said to me:
Behold, I have put My words in your mouth. (Jeremiah 1:9)
I prepare and arise up and speak
to all that the Lord commands me to speak.
I am not dismayed before their faces. (Jeremiah 1:17)
Even if they fight against me,
They shall not prevail against me.
For the Lord is with me,” says the Lord, “to deliver me.” (Jeremiah 1:19)
I am not anxious about what I will say.
But whatever is given to me at that same time by the Holy Spirit,
that I speak. ( Mark 13:11)
I will bless the Lord who has given me counsel;
My heart also instructs me in the night seasons. (Psalm 16:7)
I trust in the Lord completely;
I do not rely on my views or opinions.
With all my heart,
I rely on the Lord to guide me for the meetings.
The Lord will lead me through quiet waters and
green pastures in the meetings I attend. (Proverbs 3:5-6)
I choose to be still and hear the voice of the Lord and follow His
instructions. (Refer Isaiah 28:23, John 10:27, Psalm 46:10 )
I have divine grace to see with my eyes
and hear with my ears. (Matthew 13:16, Ezekiel 12:2)
Blessed be the Lord my Rock,
Who trains my hands for war,
And my fingers for battle. (Psalm 144:1 NKJV)
I desire that my words be like apples of gold in settings of silver.
(Proverbs 25:11)
The Lord God has given Me
The tongue of the learned,
That I should know how to speak
A word in season to those around me, including the weary.
The Lord God awakens Me morning by morning,
He awakens My ear,
To hear as the learned. (Isaiah 50:4)
Like Elisha knew the secret plans of the king of Syria, by the Lord’s power, I will know what the meeting participants would speak. By the Lord’s wisdom, I will prepare points for a victorious meeting. (refer 2 Kings 6:11-12)
Your commands make me wiser than others, for they are my constant guide. Yes, I have more insight than experts, for I am always thinking of your laws, for I have kept your commandments. (refer Psalm 119:98-100)
The meetings I attend will be testimonies of God’s goodness towards me.
In the matchless name of Jesus, I ask, and I receive. Amen
