We are aware of how we feel good around certain people. When we think about it, it’s the gentleness, goodness, and love expressed by these people with the words they use. It’s how they speak, about how they make us feel with the words they use. It’s how their heart overflow gets expressed with the words they express.

The verse we choose today, 6th August, is from the Book of Psalms, Chapter 141, verse 3. We have this from 3 versions of the Holy Bible.
Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips. (KJV)
Take control of what I say, O Lord, and guard my lips. (NLT)
Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth. (NKJV)

In a typical day, the greatest number of interactions we have with people are verbal. The number of times we have other interactions, say eating, is only 3 to 5 times in a typical day. The number of times we give or receive gifts is only a few times in a year. There are always exceptions. When I was a child, I recall that almost all family friends would find express their love towards me with gifts.

Let’s be loving, considerate, and plainly good to the people with words which overflow from a loving heart. Here in today’s verse, we ask the Lord to take control over the words we speak. Some of us find it easy to jump to conclusions and assumptions and speak what we assume. In this process, we hurt people, we bring down people, and we pass wrong judgment on people without ever giving them an opportunity to express or speak matters from their perspective. Incase we are in places of authority as a supervisor or a parent or an elder sibling, we may perhaps be doing these be virtue of this.

Sometimes, there is every reason to reprimand and speak in the way we speak these days. Yet, those of us who ask, seek, and receive guidance from the Holy Spirit discover a far superior way of communicating our displeasure and getting the best from people, thus changing the very ecosystem of the world around us. Ultimately, we want change, peace, and joy in our surroundings. Changing our words and seeking the Lord’s blessings is a superior option for us. Pray and desire this throughout the day.

Seek the Creator’s grace, change your words, and change your world. Have a blessed day.
