Bible Reading, My heart trusts in Him, and I am helped

Today’s verse is from Psalm 28: 6,7. Here is  the verse from three versions of the Bible.

Blessed be the Lord,
Because He has heard the voice of my supplication.
The Lord is my strength and my [impenetrable] shield;
My heart trusts [with unwavering confidence] in Him, and I am helped;
Therefore my heart greatly rejoices,
And with my song I shall thank Him and praise Him. (version AMP)

Praise be to the Lord,
for he has heard my cry for mercy.
The Lord is my strength and my shield;
my heart trusts in him, and he helps me.
My heart leaps for joy,
and with my song I praise him. (version NIV)

Blessed be the Lord, because he hath heard the voice of my supplications. The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.(version KJV)

King David starts with a supplication, a cry for mercy, an intense prayer. Along with this praise arises. He addresses the Lord and says Blessed be the Lord, Praise to the Lord. Thus, praise is combined with intense prayer, supplication, and cry for mercy.

From here, King David declares the strength of the Lord, how the Lord is His impenetrable shield protecting him. He says how his heart trusts in the Lord.

Then King David transitions into rejoicing, thanking the Lord with songs of praise. He leaps with joy.

How is King David able to transition into praise after having started from supplication? He would be assured by remembrance of the past goodness of God which he experiences. When you make note of answered prayers, of instances when the Lord helped you, how he gave you wisdom to resolve a crisis, your mind is able to remember these easily. Having a notebook of answered prayers and going through this periodically will help you transition – even before your current prayers are answered, into thanksgiving.
